Hildegard of Bingen (in Germany) became an anchorite at 14 and later prioress of the nunnery. She had visions and was told by her confessor to write them down. These became “Scivias” - a report of 26 visions that would sum up Christian doctrine on the history of salvation. As well as writing other visionary/philosophical works, Hildegard also wrote songs and non-visionary works. She travelled extensively, preaching.
